Concussion Clinic
in Ottawa & Kanata
One of the most comprehensive concussion program in the Ottawa region. We assess every system involved and build a recovery plan that actually works.
What Is Concussion Management?
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury caused by a direct or indirect force to the head that disrupts normal brain function. Despite being called a mild brain injury, the effects can be significant and wide-ranging: headaches, dizziness, brain fog, light and noise sensitivity, sleep disruption, visual disturbances, emotional changes, and difficulty concentrating are all common. What many patients don’t realize is that these symptoms often have distinct physical causes that respond very well to targeted, hands-on treatment. At Pro-Action, we hold Shift R2P (Return to Participation) certification and offer one of the most thorough concussion program in the Kanata and Ottawa region, assessing and treating the cervical, vestibular, visual, autonomic, and emotional components of concussion recovery.
What Does Our Concussion Program Address?
The Most Comprehensive Concussion Care in the Ottawa Region
Most clinics assess a concussion from a single angle. At Pro-Action, we assess every system involved. Our Shift R2P certification means our practitioners are trained in the full spectrum of concussion assessment and rehabilitation, covering cervical, vestibular, visual, autonomic, and cerebellar components. We coordinate across our chiropractic, physiotherapy, and naturopathic team to ensure every aspect of your recovery is supported. If you or your athlete has been told to just wait and rest, there is a better path.
What to Expect at Your Concussion Management Appointment
1
We Assess
Your concussion assessment is comprehensive and takes time. We assess cervical spine function, vestibular and balance systems, visual tracking and convergence, autonomic nervous system responses, and cognitive and emotional status. This full-system picture is what allows us to build a targeted recovery plan.
2
We Treat
Treatment is staged and specific to your findings. Cervical dysfunction is addressed with manual therapy and ART. Vestibular rehabilitation targets balance and motion sensitivity. Visual therapy addresses tracking and convergence issues. Exercise and autonomic rehabilitation are progressively introduced as your symptoms allow.
3
We Track Recovery
Progress is tracked at every visit using the same assessment tools we used at baseline. You’ll see your symptom scores, functional test results, and return-to-sport readiness benchmarks improve as your program advances.

The Practitioners Behind Your Results
Frequently Asked Questions.
Here are the questions we hear most from new patients.
How soon after a concussion should I come in?
As soon as possible. Early assessment allows us to identify which systems are affected and begin appropriate treatment before symptoms become entrenched. You do not need to wait until symptoms resolve before seeking care. In fact, waiting often prolongs recovery.
My doctor told me to rest. Is that enough?
Rest is appropriate in the very early phase after a concussion, typically 24 to 48 hours. After that, evidence strongly supports active, targeted rehabilitation over prolonged rest. If your symptoms are persisting beyond one to two weeks, a comprehensive assessment and treatment program is the recommended next step.
Can you help with post-concussion syndrome?
Yes. Post-concussion syndrome, where symptoms persist beyond the expected recovery window, responds well to the kind of multi-system assessment and targeted treatment we offer at Pro-Action. Many patients who have struggled for months find significant improvement once the underlying cervical, vestibular, and visual components are properly addressed.
Do you work with youth athletes?
Yes. A significant portion of our concussion patients are youth athletes, particularly in hockey, football, and soccer. We are experienced in working with young patients and their families, and we follow current return-to-sport protocols appropriate for student athletes.
Is concussion treatment covered by insurance?
Concussion treatment delivered by a physiotherapist or chiropractor is typically covered under extended health benefits. If your concussion was sustained in a motor vehicle accident, WSIB may also apply. Give us a call and we’ll help you understand your coverage.
