Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder refers to dysfunction in the jaw joint and the surrounding muscles that control chewing and jaw movement. It can present as jaw pain or clicking, facial tension, headaches, ear pain, and difficulty fully opening or closing the mouth. TMJ dysfunction is often connected to cervical spine issues, dental occlusion problems, bite alignment, disc displacement within the joint, or tension patterns in the muscles of the jaw and face.
